EXCERPT FROM TAKEN #3

Third Interview Introduction

Being a vampire, I like to think I’m open-minded to all things, or almost all things.  I listen to other vampires confess their deepest, darkest secrets, if they so choose, and I can’t judge them.  Or at least I shouldn’t.  I sympathize with them.  I cry with them.  I give them a venue to share what they want to share.  That’s what this quest of mine is all about.

Sometimes, however, my sanity is challenged and I struggle to not form some type of opinion when I hear a confession.  This is one of those times.

I met Diane many years after she had been turned from a human into a vampire, many years after she had assumed her role as the Demon Queen, and many years after she had walked away from her lover, Satan.

From time to time, I had heard stories about virgins being kidnapped by monsters and taken to another world.  Being a 21st century vampire, I didn’t really pay attention to such stories.  I blew them off as urban legends or silly fairy tales perverted humans shared with one another in order to get a rise out of the other.

Leaving Max, my wolfhound home, I caught the last flight to France.  After I met Diane at a coffee shop near the museum district in downtown Paris on a balmy Sunday afternoon, my opinion about these ‘Taken’ stories greatly changed and I realized that sometimes even though I’m a vampire, I don’t know everything about the true darkness hiding out there.

Starting the Interview

Interview by Randi Fang with Diane, the Demon Queen.  Recorded July 16, 2014 in Paris, France, soon after sunset.

“Thank you for waiting for me.  I do apologize.  I didn’t realize traffic would be so bad.” I collapsed in the chair, slinging my backpack and keys on the table.

“It’s quite alright.  I enjoyed watching the sunset.”

“You saw it?” Immediately I was amazed with the interview subject before me, a 4,000 year old vampire who had been referred in the past as the Demon Queen.  Now she simply went by the name, Diane.

“There are advantages to getting old, as the humans would say.  I’m enjoying longer evenings more often now.  Actually I had hoped you’d be late, so I could take advantage of seeing it.  I rise just before dusk now, but I don’t get out to the city as often as I’d like.”

“I understand,” I muttered, trying not to let on that I was rather nervous sitting across from this female vampire.  She was probably the oldest vampire I had ever interviewed, and suddenly saying something stupid in front of her worried me greatly.  Being less than one hundred years old meant I wasn’t a super-strength vampire.  At least not yet.  This woman before me had to be stronger than I could imagine.  Yet she didn’t look threatening.  Quite the contrary.  She seemed reserved, delicate like a china doll, and almost kind like a thoughtful human.  Her hair was hidden under the hood of her long, flowing satin cloak, but I could see wisps of her strawberry red hair surrounding her face.  I tried not to catch my breath when a glimpse of her face came into my view beneath the dim street lamps.  A porcelain mask shown back at me, full ruby, red lips, high cheek bones, and shining reddish orange eyes, the color of volcanic lava, and as rumor would have it, the reason she had been called the Demon Queen.

“I don’t want to scare you,” she began in a quiet voice.  She shifted her legs beneath the table and sat a snakeskin Prada bag next to my belongings.

I hadn’t really seen her lips move, but I had heard her just the same.  Unsure what to say, my eyes registered on her neck and cleavage, her ivory skin seemed unblemished and amazingly translucent as if her body comprised a solid state of white mist instead of flesh.  Her dark clothes only accentuated that fact.

“May I speak to your mind as I tell my story?  It will be much easier.”

“Telepathy, you mean?”  My eyes traveled up to meet hers again.

She nodded.

Attempting to break our eye contact, I glanced down at my recording device.  My fingers quivered a bit as I searched for the Play button.  I wondered if I had enough memory to record what I foresaw as a lengthy interview.  What have I gotten myself into?

Before I knew it, she had my hand in her grasp.  Cold and deadly.  “My dear,” she began.  “I want to put you at ease.  I mean you no harm.  I’m actually quite taken with you, if I may say so.  You are doing something few in this world would dare do, and I commend you for it.  Truly.  Just relax and let out minds connect.  I only have a few hours, then I must go hunting.  You can join me, if you like.”

Slowly I let out a sigh of relief, maybe it was relief or more likely just a hope that I could focus my thoughts and concentrate on her every word.

“What do you want to tell me tonight?” I asked.

“My turning, many months after I was taken away by Satan.  I think that will be enough in one sitting.  Don’t you?”

Failing to form the words, I sat still.  I couldn’t reply.  I knew this was too great a challenge for me.  What had happened to her really?  She looked unlike any other vampire I had ever seen.

“This will help you,” Diane stated.  Taking her finger into her mouth, she bit down on her index finger.  Then she presented it to me.  “It’s just a drop of my blood, but it will help you get through this.  Drink, my child.”

Obeying her command without the least moment of hesitation, I took her finger into my grasp, licking away the small amount of blood she wanted to share with me.  The minute the liquid seeped down my throat, our minds were connected.

Diane’s Confession

I’m sure this story is going to be quite shocking to you, Randi.  Thinking over it again, I can understand that it would be to any novice human.  But you have to remember, I lived in a time when magic was very real.  Gods and demons exchanged relationships with humans, and getting the chance to be in their presence was a gift.

My parent died on my twentieth birthday.  Being an only child with few friends or suitors, I was extremely lost without them.  Maybe that’s why I didn’t resist when I was kidnapped by the dark lord.  I didn’t struggle to run away from his grasp, so I became Satan’s play thing.

I welcomed him when he came to me that last night before he turned me.  There was a ravenous desire in my stomach I could not deny.  I wanted him now more than ever.  I had grown to love Satan ever since he had taken me from my home on Earth many months ago.  Now I enjoyed our nightly lovemaking and knew trusting my heart to let the demon dwell inside me was the smartest move I had ever made.  That night, long ago, when he had first appeared in my room, stayed with me like the satisfaction of a warm blood meal in my belly.

When Satan had carried me off to this other world to be his highest-ranking sex pet, I hoped he would turn me into a demon like him.  However, he had not, not yet.  Ever since my parents had died, I had not wanted to continue living as a human.  At twenty years old, I was certain of that fact.  Satan was my way out, my way into a new world, a new destiny.  Maybe I wanted that more and more every day than I wanted the demon.  Of course, I had ambitions beyond most young girls’ comprehension of right and wrong.  I dreamed of living with my demon lover forever.  Perhaps one day, I would become his queen.  Unfortunately, things did not turn out like that exactly.

***

Diane paused for a moment.  “Do you understand?”

I nodded, letting the magnitude of her story wash over me.  Kidnapped by Satan.  Taken into a world of sex and pleasure unlike anything humans had known.  A chosen pet.  A future of unforeseen desires and delights.  It was hard to comprehend.

She continued, “Looking back now some three thousand and eighty years, I can understand why this would seem odd, even disgusting.  I had never been with a mortal man, so I didn’t know what to expect.  But, Randi, before you judge me – as all do – think of this, do humans cast an approving eye upon your nature?  When you drain their sister or brother of their blood do you still have their sympathy?”

I nodded again.  “You’re right.  I’m starting this all wrong.  I shouldn’t be a hypocrite.  I’m sorry.”

A flash of her hand waving in the air and a slow smile creasing her face made me realize I had been forgiven, at least for the time being.

“I played the hand I was dealt.  It’s as simple as that,” Diane concluded.  “I’d expect you would have done the same, my dear.”

Meet My 10 favorite things about Halloween:

Halloween is my favorite time of year. I love how the leaves turn color and the air crisp. Suddenly it’s okay to wear purple and green together, spider earrings and fishnet hose. I have loved the season since I was a kid, and can only assume it stems from the same place as my love of paranormal romance. Werewolves, vampires and Daemons, oh my! Here are my favorite things about Halloween, add anything to the list you feel I have missed. (Oh and you will note, dressing up in sexy little costumes is not on the list. That is deliberate, because those can and should be worn year round under the right circumstances…wink, wink.)

1. Racing my kids through Cornmazes

2. Pumpkin flavored lattes

3. Fancy fake eyelashes

4. Walking through Haunted houses with my eyes only half open, holding on to husbands sleeve to guide me.

5. Singing the song Thriller at the top of my lungs

6. Sorting through my kids candy and picking out my favorite pieces, then guilting them into letting me have them.

7. The absolutely only time of year I am inspired to bake cookies, just to warm up the house without actually turning the heat on yet.

8. Men dressed in firemen costumes.

zombie bling9. Decorating my house on Oct 1st, because if I sneak in anything before that my husband takes it down.

10. The annual family trek through the Halloween superstore, where my kids have been known to throw a rubber snake at their father and dance in masks to the song Superfreak.

A storm that spelled danger flashed across Sam’s face. He advanced on Megan so fast, she backed up against the side of the Suburban. Planting a hand firmly on each side of her, he pinned her with his arms as well as his gaze.

“What I want? Are you so hard headed you can’t tell what I want?” He covered her mouth with his lips and crushed her clever comeback with an assault on her senses.

Megan pushed him, but he didn’t budge. Instead, he continued to kiss her until her heart raced and cheeks flushed with need. All resistance melted and she succumbed to the warmth of his embrace. Her arms wound around his neck of their own accord pulling him closer while her tongue sought his in a passionate dance, completely ignoring what her heart wanted.

When he finally broke away leaving Megan breathless and wanting so much more, Sam put his forehead to hers and watched her mouth like a drunk watches amber liquid poured into a glass. “You,” he rasped. “I’ve wanted you since I found you hanging from that damn roof, and all our little encounter in the river did was add fuel to the fire.”

About the Author
Author, Renee Charles believes all love is legendary. Being the only female in a house full of giants (husband and two teenage boys) she tends to lean toward the strange and unusual, but inevitably the softer side shines through.

Whether life leads her to a snow covered mountain top, sun dappled forest, or the bottom of a ravine (yes, ditches happen) she always has a pen and note pad ready so wherever the next adventure takes her, she can take notes.

Her own romance began in an insane asylum. Luckily, both she and her husband only worked there. But it makes sense her romance novels have strange beginnings that lead to passionate endings. Romance with a dark twist.

In the face of zombies, werewolves, and big foot she always seems to find a happily ever after to leave you with a sigh at the end.

Excerpt from “Love Begins in Hell (The Moon Journals: Part 1)

As the large figure came into view, I exited the closet, took aim and threw the first knife of several across the room. I stood behind the massive bed, using it as a bunker. This demon was not going to take me alive.

The figure grunted, slumping slightly to the ground.

I heard the weapon I had thrown at him fall to the floor.

My aim was bad and had not found the demon’s heart. I was at a great disadvantage. “You stay back, demon!” I shouted, hoping to sound far more threatening than I’m sure I appeared to be. “I’ve got more where that came from!” I was maybe one hundred pounds. Cold, scared, and weak from hunger, I was half of that I was sure. Or at least I felt like that. Adrenaline and self-preservation would have to see me through.

“Do your worst,” the tall figure announced. “However, I’d like to ask if I may turn on a few lights before you continue your attack. If you don’t mind?”

He mocked me, which should have infuriated me even more, but I held my position and watched as he illuminated the room. He flipped a few switches by the door frame, and the room took on a blue hue as if it had been bathed in the soft, gentle lights from beneath the sea.

I looked up at the ceiling just as the wooden beams filed away to two corners. “How did you do that?” I gasped, forgetting my defensive stance all together.

“I can’t handle fluorescent lighting, so I had these installed. Blue and green are my favorite colors actually, even though I wear a lot of black. Here let me show you one more thing. I just had this done.”

He raised his well-toned arm upwards and pressed a button at the top of the door frame.

I blinked my eyes several times, getting used to the various colors I saw forming on the ceiling. An image was being constructed.

The lighted design was magnificent and astounded me. A variety of shades of blue, green, and purple illuminated behind the picture of a fierce dragon. The dragon, with its head held high and proud, stood on a set of rocks jutting out from the edge of a cliff. A strong image of a strong creature preparing for battle. Why would a demon have such an image promoting such a great warrior animal like the dragon fashioned on the ceiling of his bedroom? It didn’t make sense.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. Is that you?”

“More or less. My friend, Orlando created it and installed it for me. I’m not really an admirer of art or paintings. I’m more interested in books, mythology really, but Orlando thought this would dress up my bedroom. I mainly like it for the quiet motivation it gives me. Each day is a test and it challenges me to focus on what is important. It helps me remember, despite everything, who I could one day become.”

“A dragon?” I blurted out. “Surely you don’t mean that. You’re a demon.” I had never heard of demons being shapeshifters. This guy had as much chance of shifting into a dragon as I did of shifting into a bar of chocolate.

Instantly he crossed the room towards me. He had his large hands wrapped around my elbows before I could grab another knife. I was pinned against his solid chest. The minute our eyes met, a bolt of lightning felt like it had ricocheted through my body. My eyes widened as he let me go and I wrapped my arms tightly around my body, so I wouldn’t fall. He staggered for a moment too as if he’d been hit by the same burst of energy.

The immediate recognition of a soul mate was something that did not occur outside the pack. It had to be a mistake. But was it? It felt so real. In that second, I re-evaluated my course of action.

“I’m not a demon. I’m a warrior,” he replied as he put some distance between us. “My mother is human, so I’m only half-demon.” He retreated to the table and sat down. He remained quiet for some time. Finally he added, “If you must know, I prefer to be called a warrior above all else.”

I thought about asking a second question like ‘Who kidnapped me?’ but I remained silent. It didn’t really matter as long as I found my sister and aunt, and we made it out. They had been missing for weeks. I had heard of a demon mating with a human and bearing a shape-shifting child, but I didn’t think it was possible. Just a myth. Werewolves were the only shapeshifters I knew of. My disbelief in his dragon warrior dream seemed to have gravely offended him, and I didn’t want to upset him again. Instead, I wanted to comfort him. Why would I want to do that? He was the enemy. I opted to be nice. My sassy attitude would get me nowhere with him.

“I like the ceiling painting,” I offered.

“Thank you. It’s very nice, isn’t it?”

“Do you have a name?” I abruptly stopped before I insulted him again.

“Dante.”

I waited for him to ask my name. He studied the table instead.

“I’m Elana.”

“Elana.” He repeated my name slowly and carefully as if it was a foreign word he didn’t want to forget.

“Your name is very unique.” A few compliments couldn’t hurt. “What does Dante mean?”

“I’ve never thought to look it up. I don’t know.”

I watched as he drew a few curves and lines along the table, absent-mindedly tracing something. “If my memory serves me right, I think Dante means protector.”

He grunted.

Knowing I’d probably upset him again if I said it too loud, I mumbled under my breath as I attempted to process the realization. “Dante, the demon protector. Wasn’t that an oxymoron?”

“No, it isn’t,” he answered. “You forget. I have excellent hearing too. You don’t have to insult me. What does your name mean?”

I threw the second knife flew and watched as it slammed into the wooden table, a few inches from his hands.

He didn’t flinch one inch.

“Freedom,” I announced as I swiftly bent over to retrieve another knife lying on the bed.

“Well that’s good. Freedom for Elana. I like that.” There was a trace of laughter in his voice. He paused for a moment before he continued. “I’m sure you do too.” A few more moments of silence passed, then finally he said, “I know this is highly unorthodox, and you’re in an extremely frightening situation. But before we go any further, I want to put your mind at ease. I’m not interested in harming you. I know you are a werewolf and probably of great importance to your people. I’m going to try to get you out of here, but you’re going to have to trust me. It’s as simple as that. Do you think you can do that?” He yanked the knife from the table and with an ironically tender touch, he bent the blade into a slight arch, disabling it so it couldn’t be used for another but holding a bunch of grapes or large orange. I swallowed hard so my mouth wouldn’t fall open. This demon could kill me in an instant.

Suddenly a vision from my wolf state hit me. I recognized his voice. I’ll help you get out of here, but you’ve got to trust me. I closed my eyes and relived the moment again. Over and over again, that voice. A ripple of awareness surged through me. His voice was the same as the man who had come to me to console me in my agitated wolf state. It was deep, almost sensual, yet tranquil and protective. This demon before me had calmed me. “The wolf chant. That was you?”

“Yes.”

“What did you say?”

He paused for a moment, digging his long nail into the wood of the table.  “You were very upset.”

“What did you say?”

“That’s not really important, is it?”

“I insist,” I replied with my polite tone I used when I wanted it to be known I expected to get what I sought.

He chuckled.  His laugh was low and throaty.  “I’ve seen pomp and circumstance from my father.  You don’t have to take that tone with me.  There is no need for us to be enemies.”

I attempted to soften my insistence.  “I’m sorry.  Please then.”

“Don’t apologize.  Let’s keep this on a level playing field.  I’ll treat you as an equal, and you treat me as one.  Okay?”

His confidence was infectious.  He didn’t have the disposition of a demon at all.  My aunt had said they were horrible creatures with no feeling, no remorse, and no compassion for others.

“Fair enough,” I whispered, only realizing a second later that I had not fully enunciated the words.  Clearly this young man had not kidnapped me so why was I in his presence?  Did he know who had kidnapped me?  Maybe he could lead me to the person?  Equals?  Why would he say we were equals?  My father, the Werewolf King, certainly didn’t think like that.  Dante’s words and actions of kindness and hospitality thoroughly confused me.  As a sign of good faith, I placed the weapons down before me on the bed, noticing in passing the letter ‘D’ carved into the blade of each knife.

“A beauty like no other.  So beautiful.  Calm yourself.  Calm yourself, my sweet.  I’m not going to let anyone hurt you.”

“I’m sorry?  What did you say?”

Dante repeated his words for my benefit.  “A beauty like no other.  So beautiful.  Calm yourself.  Calm yourself, my sweet.  I’m not going to let anyone hurt you.”

No demon would know how to practice Wolfen Magic,” I replied.  I observed his new nervousness.  His mood had shifted, and he refused to look at me as he continued to scratch at the table.

“I’m not a demon.  I’m a warrior.”  He glanced at the ceiling, looking again at the lighted design of the dragon.  “I thought we covered that?”  His tone was very gentle even though I saw the muscles in his jaw twitch a few times.

“Dante, the protector, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” I curtsied, trying to appear more of a lady than I felt as well as lighten the mood.

Friday Freebie: Free ebook, Giveaway, & Confession by Ally Thomas

Ally Thomas, an Amazon Bestseller author in Fantasy and writer of the paranormal fantasy series, the Vampire from Hell sent me a text the other day and said she was coming out. I stopped for a moment because Ally is straight and married. I texted her back and asked her what she meant exactly. “About the pen name stuff,” she replied.

Many of Ally’s fans have been wondering why Ally stopped writing on her popular series, the Vampire from Hell last summer. After she released “A Vampire on Vacation (The Vampire from Hell – Part 3)”, Ally seemed to take an extended vacation herself. Oddly enough she has been busy writing in between everything else, but not on what we’d expect her to be writing. Continue the interview below.

Interview with Ally Thomas

Randi: I’ve gotta ask you straight up. What happened? You pushed the deadline for Part 4 of the Vampire from Hell series several times last year. People now wonder if you are coming back with anymore in the series. Are you?

Ally: I am coming back with the series. My heroine, Rayea is my favorite subject, hands down. I know it’s upsetting to my fans that I have taken so long to get the next installment out.  And I apologize for making them wait, but it’ll be worth it. I can tell now it’s going to be a much better installment than the one I accidentally deleted in October 2012. I’ve got my confidence back writing as Rayea.

Randi: Excuse me, did you say deleted?!

Ally: Yes. I probably shouldn’t admit this. I really nose-dived into self doubt or writer’s block last year. Deleting a book certainly didn’t help. I always thought that writer’s block was a lame excuse for a writer to use until I experienced it first hand. I’m not sure what happened after Part 3 was released last July. Maybe I burned myself out.  Getting laid off at Christmas only added more to my situation. I’m happy to say I’m writing again and that’s all that matters. I’m working on Part 4, but I’d be lying to you if I said I’ve been working on it all this time.

Randi: So you haven’t then?

Ally: I’ve been exploring new ideas and contemplating writing under pseudonyms.  While Rayea’s stories are my first love, I realized late last year that I had hit a brick wall with my writing. I needed a break and wanted a new challenge. When I accidentally deleted the old version of Part 4, I flipped out. Later I realized it was a sign. I needed to re-evaluate things. I started playing around with the idea of a paranormal romance after Christmas.

Randi: Okay, so what did you do? You’re being very vague still, Ally. Come on. Spill it!

Ally: I have several author friends who write exclusively in paranormal romance and erotica. I create covers for them and format their paperbacks so I got curious after skimming sections of their books. I wanted to see if I too could write something ‘romancy’ as I put it. My focus has been fantasy and sci-fi and that’s what I wanted to write with the Vampire from Hell series. Romance, even erotic romance is so different. My strengths are dialogue while writing description is a challenge for me. I had to write lots of description in romance so I read some ‘How To’ books and got to work. I’m not sure I’m any good at it yet, but I’m exploring. I like how different it is and I love to hear from readers. Finding out what they like about your romance ebook is very informative. Reader feedback has always been fun! I think I needed the distraction of challenging myself to write something  out of my comfort zone in order to find my way back to the Vampire from Hell series.

Randi: I thought you wrote Young Adult. You don’t consider the Vampire from Hell a YA series?

Ally: No, I don’t consider the Vampire from Hell series YA. I don’t market any of my books in that series as YA. Rayea curses a lot and talks about all of her boyfriends she has sex with. She may not go into details, but someday she might. Rayea has a complicated sex life, remember? I think of it as paranormal fantasy, not Young Adult.

Randi: So how did you approach this idea of writing a paranormal romance?

Ally: Being a movie buff, I watched a lot of romantic movies. I talked with a few romance author friends of mine a lot, so much so I probably annoyed them. Finally I figured out a story I liked, the language I wanted to use, and went with it. I did a test run (releasing a story in February) that seemed to go over nicely and now I’m back at it with another installment of the story for a release later this summer.

Randi: A test run? What do you mean?

Ally: I released the first novella under an unknown pen name., not related to my name.

Randi: Okay, I’m lost. Not Eva Thomas?

Ally: Under a different pseudonym. Different person, social networking sites, blog, website, everything. No, not Eva J. Thomas.

Randi: You are seriously sneaky. Two pen names instead of one. Wow, you have been a busy girl. What’s this other pen name?

Ally: Some people know, but I’m not telling publicly just yet. Some of my friends and street team members know. I’m only sharing the Eva J. Thomas pen name today because several of my author friends thought my story had been stolen. And they guessed the Virgin Moon cover was one I’d do. That was the sinker. I realized I needed to tell everyone what I had been up to since last summer.

Randi: So let me get this straight. You released the same story under two pen names? Eva and this secretive one?

Ally: Something like that. Two stories by two pen names. Everything is copyrighted under my name. The stories start off similar, but end up going in other directions. I played around with the plot and the sex scenes in Eva’s version are way hotter in my opinion. I will have to say that if you have read the other story (written under the unknown pen name) and you read Eva’s Virgin Moon you will see some similarity. I’ve been practicing and working up the nerve to write more explicit. That was a tough hurdle for me to jump creatively let’s say. Writing in the Romance genre has been a lot of fun and I think it’s improved my writing too. I’m more patient with description now. At least I hope I am.

Randi: Okay so we should ask our readers then if you are a reader of Ally Thomas and know this other pen name she writes under, please don’t share it online.

Ally: Yes, please. Ask them not to share it. The Eva one I’m attaching my name to so people will see that both of us are collaborating on some books. I’m sure I’ll talk about the other pen name at some point. Right now, I’m asking those who know to not share that info.

Randi: So what genre do you like writing in most then? Fantasy or Romance? Or Erotica?

Ally: That’s a great question because I’ve been wondering that myself. Possibly Fantasy and Horror are my favorite genres, but I think I’m going to say that I love the variety of writing in several genres and having the courage to do it. As an Indie Author, I can decide what I want to do and how to market my books. Somewhere along the way I lost my confidence as an author. I don’t mean I forgot how to write, but I struggled to write what I wanted to write. I thought I should write what others wanted me to do. It dawned on me a few days ago when I managed to sneak in writing on the upcoming Part 4 of the Vampire from Hell series in between a training delivery for a client just how much I love the first series I ever wrote. Looking back, it brings so many memories to mind when I published that first short story called “The Vampire from Hell (Part 1) – The Beginning” January 2011. Seven thousand words. It was an absolutely insane idea to release such a short book. Had I put that story in romance, they would have killed me over the short length and I would have crumbled under any negative reviews. But I have never regretted that move. It’s been free all this time and it’s the best move I ever made. I know that now. As an Indie Author, I can explore new avenues and ways to write every day. Also I’ve been fascinated to see that the ebook market is changing. New Indie Authors are publishing stories, novels, novellas every day defining the length. To some, 100,000 words is a novel. To another, 30,000 words is a novella. If readers are open to the experience, they get to enjoy that author’s contribution. Amazon even has this new thing called Kindle Serials where authors publish an ongoing serialization of a story idea.

Randi: Is that where the serial romance idea came from then? Your first Eva story is an ‘episode’.

Ally: Possibly. I liked the idea of a romance in episodes. As you know, I write parts of the Vampire from Hell series. Installments. I can’t write long works. Beginning/Middle/End. The traditional way. That is another confession or realization I made over these long months. I’d love to be able to sit down and write 100,000 word novel. Maybe some day I will. For now my length is anywhere from 25,000 to 55,000 words per ebook. I’ve been wrestling with trying to fit in more as an author, trying to do approaches that work for others. But it’s not me. I’m not going to write massively long books and I need to own up to that, privately and officially. I want to find that courage I had in late 2011 and approach my writing (whether it is as Ally Thomas or some other name) and than means me standing up to some personal demons I’ve been fighting with. I never realized how much it would take daily to promote myself as an author when I first started out. Now I know and I have to be ready for it so it doesn’t consume me again. I’ve gotta approach writing the way I want to or I won’t last at it.

Randi: That makes sense. It sounds like you have been figuring out a lot of things so are you ready to tell us more about Virgin Moon?

Ally: Absolutely and I included an excerpt too.

About Virgin Moon

Let’s learn what “Virgin Moon” is about…

Vincent, the rebel vampire son of the dark lord Alichino, receives Emily, a virgin werewolf as a playmate. He wants no part of his father’s latest toy until he looks into the virgin’s eyes and feels his heart respond. Vincent realizes he must escape with the werewolf beauty who has awakened his heart before she’s found or dies at the hands of his evil father. (Word count 28,500)

Virgin Moon is the first episode in an erotic werewolf/vampire romance by Ally Thomas, author of the paranormal fantasy series, the Vampire from Hell series. As a sideline writing project, Ally Thomas decided in 2013 to write a paranormal erotica novella series under the pen name Eva J. Thomas in between her other paranormal series. More episodes will follow.

Randi: I like Vincent. He sounds very delicious. Tall, dark, and handsome with blue eyes.

Ally: Lol! I suppose so. I had to write my vampire hero, the man Emily falls in love with as a dark and mysterious vampire with a compassionate heart.

Randi: What was it like writing in a werewolf heroine?

Ally: I enjoyed it actually. I know that’s hard to imagine since we are vampire fans, but I’m starting to embrace the ‘fur’ *wink* and I had fun with Emily’s character and the transformation ideas. I’m excited to see where it takes me for this story.

Excerpt from “Virgin Moon” (A Werewolf/Vampire Serial Romance, Episode #1) – ADULT CONTENT WARNING
“Are you a virgin?” Vincent ran his hands through his shortly cropped wavy black hair and scratched his scruffy beard, obviously waiting for me to respond in some fashion. I noticed he stared for a few moments at my opened thighs. His shirt was the only clothing I had on. Finally he crisscrossed his hands behind his head and simply watched me.
I wanted to lie and say that I wasn’t a virgin, but drinking in his handsome presence, I couldn’t deny him the truth. I wouldn’t be able to deny him anything I realized. My inner core surged with hot desire for him. I swallowed down my fears. “Yes,” I finally said. “But I’m experienced.” With that utterance, I hoped Vincent would understand what I meant.

He laughed, low and seductive. A smile swept across his face and his eyes brightened. Slowly he raised an eyebrow at me. “Indeed?” he whispered. “You find me attractive, don’t you?”

“Yes,” I replied feeling a bulge in his pants meet the curve of my buttocks as I rested upon him.

Vincent gently ran his fingers across the side of my face. He had amazing blue eyes, angular features, a perfectly shaped nose and square jaw. He was breathtaking.
When he touched me, I froze, unable to resist his sexual magnetism as he stared up at me. His eyes surely held the secrets to worlds beyond my comprehension. No one told me vampires would be so tempting. It was more than I could handle. Or was it? I pushed the naughty thought to the back of my mind.

“I promise to be gentle. I only want a taste. Will you allow me that, Emily?”

My heart again shattered when he said my name. I moaned as his large hands found my neck. He tugged lightly on my hair as he plunged his hands into the cascades of my long curly blond hair. My neck extended upwards and I was forced to look away from him. I was held captive in his embrace. His hands held me powerless as he gripped the back of my neck and the small of my back. The safety of the shirt I wore failed me and the front of my body was clearly exposed to this man, this vampire. My face reddened with shame and I forced my eyes open, looking upward. The lighted design of the warrior with his wolf returned my gaze. It was the most beautiful artwork I had ever seen. An offering of harmony between the two supernatural beings. Was such a thing possible? Instantly I felt my body relax under the vampire’s touch.

EXCERPT from Desire:

My first interview is with a vampire we will call ‘Rose.’  I’m not going to ‘out’ her and tell you who she is.  You may have read her blog because, like me, she is online a lot and she loves to write or blog I guess.  If you haven’t read my blog, I can tell you her father was demon, one of the seven Princes of Hell actually and he turned her.  Soon after their relationship ended badly.  Probably because she ripped his heart out.  Literally.  We vampires tend to have an issue with anger management.

She doesn’t have a loving relationship with her family.  Even before killing her father, she was the outcast.  Her friends, human and vampire alike, have become the people she cares about.  Her real family.  Our first interview is below.

Interview Begins

Interview by Randi Fang with ‘Rose,’ blogger, vampire, lover of mankind.  Recorded September 15, 2011 at a café in Union Square, San Francisco, CA.

Me:  Hi Rose, thanks so much for joining me for this interview.  I really appreciate your being available.  You’re very kind to open up your busy schedule for me.

Rose arched an eyebrow at me and did that infamous clicking noise with her teeth.

Rose: What are you talking about?  I see you all the time.  Why are you acting like we don’t know each other?

Me:  I’m an idiot.  I’m sorry.  Have you thought about what I asked you to do?

Rose:  Coming up with a few confessions I can share with your readers?

Me:  Yes.

Rose:  I have actually.  I have one to tell you about really.  A juicy one.  I hope this is what you are looking for.  It’s not too freaky.  You said to not start with anything freaky, right?

Me:  That’s right.  That sounds great!  But just one?  I thought you’d have more than that.

Politely I smile at Rose as I notice her green eyes sparkle brilliantly in the low light setting of the cafe.  I arrived early and found a table for us in the back away from the holiday crowds.

Rose nodded and dipped her finger in the cup of green tea sitting before her.  I motioned to a waiter and pointed at my empty cup of soda.

Rose: I wasn’t sure what I wanted to tell you at first, so I thought one would work for now.  I can give you more later.  You know?  So what are we supposed to do here?

Me:  You talk and I’ll record.  I may ask you a question or two here or there, but I don’t want to interrupt you to break the flow of the story.  Okay?

Rose’s green eyes grew lazy as she studied me.  Hastily she dried off her index finger and reached for her iPhone when a text message came in.

Rose:  Just a second.

She pushed up the sleeves of her long black fitted knit top.  I noticed the skull image on the front of the shirt looked oddly out of proportion.  Rose is a very attractive lady, even though she doesn’t spend a lot of time on fixing herself up.  It’s a natural sort of beauty, high cheekbones, full lips, a little button nose, long shiny black hair, and a toned physique held in a slender frame for her 5’ 9” height.  I surmised to look away before I become more envious.  If she was bi-curious at all, I’d invite her to some of my events, but I knew better than to bring it up.  Rose loved the cock.  Period.

I glanced up at Rose as she held a hand in front of me, staring at her phone as her thumb blurs in motion.  I flipped through my notebook hoping to pretend I was looking at my questions instead of her beauty.

The waiter brought me a fresh soda and I noticed Rose’s attention shifted to the table.

Rose: How can you drink that stuff?  It looks nasty and it hisses.

Me: How can you drink blood tea?

I pointed to the greenish yellow liquid in her cup.

Me:  My beverage looks weirder than that?

She rolled her eyes at me, a gesture I have seen on more than one occasion.  Briefly she nodded and ignored me as she resumed playing with her phone.  I waited for her to respond to a few more text messages and emails.  Then I took my life in my own hands.  The legends about Rose being a vampire who had tasted angel and god blood intrigued me.  I knew she was far more powerful than I’d ever hope to be, but as our interviews began I had to test the boundaries I had with her.

Me:  You’re going to have to turn that off.  I need your full attention.

I raised a knowing eyebrow at her and let a devilish grin cross my face.

Me:  Please.

She shook a finger at me and I bit my lip briefly when I witness the length of her long nail.  It reminded me of a hawk’s talon.  My fangs are not nearly as long or impressive, but I pressed my luck a little further.

Rose:  Nice try.  I’ll mute it.  That’s the best I can do.  If I miss one task from my superiors, there will be Hell to pay.  You get me?

Me:  Fair enough.  I thought it was worth a try.

I smiled at her without letting my eyes engage hers and realized that this interview was going to be a tough one with distractions.   Getting the first story would have to be enough for now.  Rose was a very complicated vampire, one who thought she was out to save the world, a mission I would never want to assume.

She sensed my concern immediately and patted me on the hand, knowing I’ll like it.

Rose:  Pussycat, I wrote everything down.  You can sit there and sip your fizzy drink and just listen.  How’s that?

Me:  Perfect.

I relaxed, putting the heels of my black leather books on the rung of the chair next to her, and pushed the Record button on my device.

Rose:  I hope it’s okay.  I decided to change the players’ names.  So I wouldn’t be discovered.  Is that fine?

I nodded ‘yes,’ and then raised the cold soda to my lips.  Rose was the James Bond of all vampires.  I knew better than to disagree with her on even the slightest issue.

Rose:  After our talk the other day about what makes us, vampires tick, I think I have to agree with you.  It’s blood and sex.  Either is on my mind every minute of the day unless someone is trying to kill me or harm a friend of mine.  So that’s what this first story is about.  Does that work for you?

Again I nodded approvingly.

EXCERPT from Redemption (The following excerpt is for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY)

He smiled at me smugly and focused his attention on my hips. I followed his gaze. He wrapped both of his hands around mine as I held his cock against my naked belly. He stroked my hands, and then opening up the palms of his large hands, he quietly encouraged me to assume the task. When I took charge, he mumbled, “You’re stronger than you think.”

A fever of blushes covered my face. “Oh my goodness, did I hurt you?” I wanted to blush again, but his declaration, that he felt something quite literally when he had met me surfaced in my mind and sent me into oblivion. True love. I gazed up at him, marveling at the look of pleasure on his face. True love.

He moaned and rocked his hips gently into my hands.

I rubbed the head of his cock with my thumb, feeling a sweet stickiness at the tip.

Raphael moved his hand between my thighs and rubbed my clit, his fingers pumping inside me a few times.

My hips met his movements and I groaned, feeling the warmth of his manhood slide between my legs.

“I don’t want to control these feelings I have for you.” He gathered me up in his arms. “I don’t know where they came from. Maybe it was the wolf chant that did it. I don’t know for sure, but I know I feel this.”

A slight smile crossed his lips. He embraced me tightly and then picked me up in his arms.

I placed my hand over his heart. “True love,” I whispered as the words expelled out of my mouth in the form of a few short breaths. Could it be?

“This can’t be wrong, Caroline. I don’t want to deny the possibility of the love we can have. Say you agree?”

“I think I already love you, Raphael. I’ve never known anyone like you. You’re a glorious, magnificent vampire.”

When I felt his easing himself into me, my body melted. “Oh my god, yes,” I cried out. “Yes! Yes!” Wanting to increase our pace, I started to ride him with a newborn intensity. The warmth of his blood raced through my veins. “I’m yours,” I cried out. “I’m yours!”

“Shh,” he said. “Don’t listen to my blood. I don’t want you to be my servant or blood source. Equal.” With his muscular arms, he brought me up and down a time or two, shifting the rhythm of lovemaking to a slower urgency. “I want us to be equals. I want to cherish this moment forever. I want to look in your eyes as I’m inside you and know if we are never to be together again we had this one moment, out here in this wasteland.”
